I've done quite a few weddings now over the last two years, and although weddings are a 'generally-the-same' kind of day, each one is truly unique. Does that make sense?
You photograph the bride and groom getting ready, the ceremony, formals, reception, dance .... all standard. Or, so it would seem. But the more weddings I photograph, and the more I attend ... the more I realise, there are no two weddings alike.
How can this be? What makes a wedding one of a kind? Well, in my eyes .... a theme, the family, and of course the bride and groom themselves.
Sarah did not go with a theme for her day, but her colours and decor were beautiful. What made this wedding stand out so much in my mind, and will be one of my favorite weddings to date - was the family unit.
I am getting sappy in my old age, or maybe that it is the fact that my wedding day is quickly approaching itself! But I did not know a single soul at this wedding - Sarah had me photograph her wedding and it wasn't because she knew someone I knew, or a family or friend referred her. She simply found me, and liked my work. Yet I do not think I have ever laughed so hard at times, and yes, cried at times during this wedding.
They were married at the Amsterdam Inn in Quispamsis, and also had their reception there. What a reception it was!! Words can not explain the emotion even I felt, as an outsider to such a close family unit. When one table sand a song - so the bride and groom would kiss - the entire room sang with them! The word speech doesn't do the kind words and thoughts that were said (and felt) by siblings, family and friends. You could feel the closeness, and love that surrounded Sarah and Jonathon - in the actions, words and gifts that embraced this reception. Even a language barrier did not stop the joining of these two families! (some guest only spoke french)
BEST. RECEPTION. EVER!
If my reception is half as heartfelt as thiers, I will be over the moon!
Here are some of my favorite images from this truly, heartwarming day!
Thanks to my second shooter Rebecca McCabe for some great images.
