What inspired you to start your own business?
There are a few reasons why I chose to be a business owner. Three years ago, I had to face the fact that my corporate work environment was no longer fulfilling my needs and a health crisis was screaming at me to make a decision. I began studying holistic health and wellness for my own self-healing. I attended a series of Chopra Center workshops and immersed myself full-time in 2009 in the study of becoming a certified Ayurvedic Lifestyle Instructor (Chopra Center for Well-being in California). The ancient wisdom of Ayurveda enabled me to bring balance, vitality and transformation into my life. My own journey was remarkable and I felt the calling to share the wisdom with others. Students were promoting my classes and the word got around pretty fast that I was offering a unique and very educational wellness workshop. I turned my calling into my duty and new career path. Plus, being my own boss allows me to manage my schedule to suit my personal needs.
What type of services do you offer?
I help others learn how to bring balance, vibrant health and joy into their life. I offer workshops, personal consultations, corporate wellness events and webinars. The PERFECT HEALTH Ayurvedic Lifestyle Program is currently offered at the Amana Institute in Nauwigewauk.
What do you enjoy most about the business you offer?
I absolutely love what I do. I feel I’m being used for a purpose when I teach and I coach others. I’m passionate about helping others reach a higher state of healthy living that I can barely contain myself. I feel I’m operating my business 24/7. I live what I do and share it with anyone who will listen—to their delight! I enjoy the fact that what I do is particularly valuable to our health care. Prevention, holism and integrative medicine are increasingly talked about in the medical science community. The universe timed my new career very well.
What sets you apart from your competitors?
My own personal story of recovery and the international training I undertook to become certified are just a few of my unique gifts. I’m lively, intuitive, friendly and extraordinarily curious. My idea of fun is learning and sharing and my workshops are life-altering. There is something unique about my approach. As opposed to some holistic and natural health practitioners, I believe the future of health care will take a more integrative approach. I offer strategies for wellbeing from the East, along with the best in healthy living strategies of the West—blending ancient wisdom and modern science.
What makes your business unique?
Ayurveda is unique in the sense that it takes into account the whole being: emotions, body, heart, environment, self-actualization and spiritual health as contributing factors to physical health and longevity. What makes it even more interesting is the concept of balance of the energies within our psychology and physiology. 5,000 years ago, the ancient seers defined the energies expressed as space, air, fire, water and earth. These five elements combine to create doshas (energies) within everything under the stars—including our mind and body. When these energies are out of balance, we experience discomfort, distress, conflicts and disease. My students are captivated when I begin explaining how each one of them has a unique dosha. They enjoy learning about the mind-body types, their physical characteristics and behavioral profiles. They learn that each person has a blueprint for health, with certain vulnerabilities—along with a unique and ever-changing strategy for re-establishing balance. Unlike many other one-size-fits-all programs, Ayurveda is individualized, holistic and extremely ahead of its time—exactly what our busy and overwhelmed world needs.
In additional to being a Certified Chopra Center Ayurvedic Lifestyle Instructor, I have studied Ayurvedic Nutrition and Meal Planning, and recently obtained my Holistic Life Coaching accreditation. I am currently working toward my Meditation Teacher certification. I am also a member of the Fundy Wellness Network. I take the wellbeing of our community and planet seriously and I am actively involved in wellness activities that support living a long, healthy and happy life.
